William George Hendrickson, age 76, passed away Oct. 8, 2019 at his home in Excelsior.

Bill served 4 years in the United States Air Force and 33 years in the Air National Guard, obtaining the rank of Colonel and ending his career as the 133rd Support Group Commander in the Minnesota Air National Guard.

Born in Sioux City, Iowa, Bill moved to South Dakota to attend college, where he graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. An avid leaner, he also received an M.S. in Civil Engineering and M.A. in Business.

Bill was known for his profound faith, integrity, honor, and kindness. He never compromised on his work but always made time for those around him. He loved antique cars, running, and reading, but above all, he had a great passion for his wife, family, and the Lord. He is remembered by his loved ones, friends, and comrades, and will be dearly celebrated and missed.

Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Nancy; his two daughters, Stacey (Kevin) and Katie (Chris); nine grandchildren: Josh (Tracy), Anna (Ben), Lydia (Marcus), Elisabeth, Brogan, Soren, Aidan, Glenn, and Nora; six great-grandchildren; brother, Morgan (Sharron), and many beloved nephews, nieces, and other relatives. The funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 14, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church, 18360 Minnetonka Blvd., Deephaven. Reception to follow service, followed by 2 PM interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be held Oct. 13, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. Huber Funeral Home in Excelsior as well as 1 hour prior to the funeral at Grace.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Grace Lutheran Church of Deephaven (952-473-2362) or the Minnesota Air National Guard Museum (

Bill was a man of great gentleness and integrity as a member of the ANG. He never descended into gossip or careerism, and led airmen by kindness and example. As Wing Chaplain I counted on his positive attitude during stressful times, like the dreaded ORI’s. He Aimed High in service and faith at all times, even when disappointed. My condolences to family and ANG friends.
Ch, LTC Rob Lubben, (ret)
