Margie Marie (Brooks) Smith was born on January 12, 1936 in rural Lake Lillian, MN to Merle and Luella (Schroeder) Brooks. Margie was baptized in March 1936 at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Bird Island, MN and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in New London, MN in June of 1950. She attended schools in Kandiyohi County.
Margie married Edward J. Lord on April 3, 1954 at Zion Lutheran Church in Rapid City, SD. While Edward served in the United States Air Force, they lived in the Phillipine Islands, Texas and Florida.
They had 2 daughters, Lynn and LuAnne. Margie lived in Logan County, IL for 20 years, and she was employed with the Logan County Health Department for 18 years. She was employed as a Hearing and Vision Technician and program supervisor until her retirement in 1991.
Margie had a love for nature, she enjoyed baking, gardening and flower arranging, but most of all she found happiness in her daughters and granddaughter, Hannah. Margie was always an active member of the Lutheran church, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school, bible school and she held various offices in the church.
Margie passed away on March 19, 2019 at the age of 83. She was surrounded by her loved ones and her caretakers at Monarch Estates in Excelsior, MN.
Margie is survived by her daughters Lynn Lord of Chanhassen, MN and LuAnne and her husband Tom Wright of Watertown, MN and granddaughter Hannah and her husband Brandon Rollins of Glencoe, MN, sister Shirley Remillard, nieces Janet and Mark McDougall, Julie and Tom Springer, Jean and Bruce Drew, Joni and George Hemmesch and nephew Barry and Nancy Houchin.
Margie was preceded in death by her mother, Luella Schroeder in 1954 and her father, Merle Brooks in 1989. Internment will be at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Rapid City, SD beside her mother.
