Life Story for George Delmar Crawford

Born 10-23-30 as the youngest of 12 children to Charles David Crawford and Anna Theresa Bultman Crawford, and was the last of his family to pass into eternity. George grew up on a farm in Plymouth County, Iowa, just north of Sioux City, farming with his father. He served in the US Army, stationed in Alaska and was acknowledged for being top of his class in Automotive Repair. He then served in the Iowa Army National Guard, serving his country a grand total of 13.5 years during and after the Korean conflict.
George married Rachel Matz in 1955 and had a son, Tom and daughter, Brenda. He later married Patsy Lee Haaland Wilhelm in 1966 and welcomed stepson Mick and stepdaughters Lori & Deb. Together they had one son, Geoff.
Throughout his life, George excelled in automotive and diesel repair, with his final employment for the City of Burlington, IA. He loved fishing and gardening, growing abundant organic produce well before organic became popular! He was a lifelong avid reader and in his later years he enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV across the country. He especially enjoyed camping with family and also with their RV group.
George’s faith defined him as a man of God. He enjoyed participating in several Bible studies and church groups. Mission work was of high priority, especially packing food for hungry children. He was very active throughout his life, fully recovering from brain surgeries 2 years ago, and up until the past 2 months. He was blessed to have many children and grandchildren visit him within the last weeks of his life. Goerge passed peacefully into his eternal home in Heaven on July 10, 2018.
Survivors include Patsy, his wife of 51 years; son, Tom (Taresa) Crawford of Sioux City, IA; daughter, Brenda Crawford of Sioux Falls, SD; sonCol. Geoffrey (Katha) Crawford of Ft. Rucker, AL; step-son, Micheal Wilhelm of Pueblo, CO; step-daughters, Lori (Kieth) Hays and Debra (Neal) Netsch, both of Mound, MN; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in his memory to the Scholarship Fund at Messiah Lutheran Church of Burlington, IA and/or to the Scholarship Foundation at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Mound, MN.
