Obituary for Edna Alma Conrad

Edna Alma Conrad
Conrad, Edna, of Excelsior passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Heritage of Edina with her youngest son at her side at the age of 99 ¾.
Born in McClusky, ND April 20, 1918 to parents Edward and Martha Landwher. With one brother Albert they grew up in the Hastings area where they attended a small country school of 6 and walked to school 2 ½ miles sometimes in deep snow. She started as a waitress and married Red Doub and had 1 daughter Joan before contracting TB which landed her in a sanatorium at Cannon Falls, MN for 5 years. They divorced and then during the war, worked a punch press at American Hoist and Derrick. She was the first woman to be hired there and that’s where she met Clifford Max Conrad and they were married on May 23, 1946, in Milbank, SD. After that they moved to Excelsior where they lived and were married for 50 years. She continued to work at Bemis Bags doing piece work printing bags. Then took a job as a department manger at K-Mart where she retired. They enjoyed dancing, playing cards and traveling out west to Arizona in the winter.
Edna is survived by her daughter Joan Kornelyk (Dan) of Pequot Lakes, MN, Ron Conrad (Linda) of Mound, MN and Ken Conrad of Forest Lake, MN., 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford on March 26, 1996, 2 infant twins and brother Albert.
