Obituary for Wayne Alex Brostrom

Wayne Alex Brostrom
Wayne A. Brostrom, 63, of Eden Prairie, MN passed peacefully from this life on Friday Dec 8, 2017 in Edina, MN surrounded by loved ones after a long hard fought battle with Parkinson’s disease and diabetes. Wayne was born June 17, 1954 to William and Rose Brostrom. He enjoyed an idyllic childhood in Homewood, IL. The family moved to Wisconsin Rapids in 1969 where Wayne graduated from Lincoln High School in 1972. He went on to earn a degree in Finance from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. Following college, Wayne took a position with IDS as a Financial Services Advisor where he rapidly rose through the management ranks, enjoying a successful career from 1976 until 2002 when he took early retirement to focus on his health. He loved his job, stress and all, and often said, “If this was easy, everyone would be doing it”.

Wayne was an accomplished fisherman and guide who taught countless children and adults his secret technique for landing trophy fish in the lakes and streams of WI and MN. He was never happier than when heading out on his boat with a bucket of minnows and his gear at 5 am to cast a line while the sun rose slowly over the Spread Eagle Chain of Lakes. Late in life Wayne took up water color painting and could often be seen in the Wayzata area painting and chatting with the locals about his art work. Several of his pictures can be seen on display in local businesses. Wayne’s true legacy however are his children Chloe and Bjorn Brostrom. They inspired him to keep up “The Good Fight” and were far and away what he cherished most deeply in this world.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father and best friend, William Brostrom. He is survived by his children, Chloe and Bjorn Brostrom, his mother Rose Brostrom, his step mother Kathy Brostrom his ex-wife and close friend of 25 years Katy Brostrom and his siblings Donna Mummery, Herb Brostrom, Bill Mengel and Fawn Nicholson. Wayne was a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews. Wayne had a close bond and life long friendship with Roger Norberg, Clark Austin and Bill Grupp. He depended on these guys for support and encouragement and they would all say he gave as much as he got. These friendships were nurtured by endless summer hours filled with comradery, fellowship and all kinds of fun and mischief at their beloved Svecia Club in Florence, WI a second home to all of them.

His humor, kindness and zest for life were enjoyed by everyone he touched and he kept that quick wit to the very end. He was passionate about life and set the example, that one can never give up. His drive and energy were an inspiration that we will always remember.

A memorial service and celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 3 PM on Saturday, Dec 16 at Green Acres Event Center, 14150 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, MN 55347, with visitation starting at 2 PM.

He lived a good life - lit some fireworks and enjoyed every step of the journey.

In lieu of flowers the family would prefer a donation to one of the following: JDRF Diabetes Foundation, The Michael J. Fox Foundation or Little Memorial Hospice of Edina, MN.
