Obituary for Scott Seibert

Scott E. Seibert, 78, of Chanhassen, Minnesota died peacefully on Monday, November 27. Scott was formerly a 41-year resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, November 30th at 11:00am at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Chanhassen by the Rev. Rolf Tollefson. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service.

Scott was born on his father's birthday, February 15th, 1939 in Salem, Illinois; the only son of Dr. Warren and Pearl (Buhrman) Seibert. He graduated from Salem High School and went on to graduate from the University of Illinois, Champaign with a B.S. degree in 1962. He was President of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi. He received his M.S. degree in 1964 from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Scott married Mary Jo Sutter on October 24th, 1964 in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. Scott proudly served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland from 1964-1966 and in 1972 was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Captain.

Scott joined the Pillsbury Company in Minneapolis, MN. in 1966 as a Product Development Scientist. In 1971 he joined National Oats Co. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he proudly worked for 30 years retiring in January 2002 as Vice President of Research and Development. Scott was a member of Institute of Food Technologists, American Association of Cereal Chemists, a member of Cedar Rapids Downtown Rotary Club and SCORE.

Scott was a member of St. Hubert Catholic Church in Chanhassen and a former member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa serving as President of their school board for two terms.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Jo; children, Susan Frommelt, husband Mark and their three children, Eleanor, Andrew and Louis of Chanhassen, MN., Craig Seibert of Omaha, NE, and Sarah Hawley, husband Craig and their three children, Annabelle, Amelia and Max of Medina, MN. Also surviving are David W. Sutter (brother-in-law) of Libertyville, IL and 6 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Mary Sutter.

Scott enjoyed traveling, reading, sporting events, biking, walking and spending time grooming his immaculate yard. Scott was an avid reader and lifelong learner. He loved his career in the food science industry, a good craft beer and a dry joke. Scott was a kind and gentle man with love and devotion for his family and friends. He was fondly known as "Papa" by his grandchildren and will be greatly missed.
