Obituary for Peter "Sully" Sullivan

Peter Sullivan, known to friends as "Sully," unexpectedly passed away on September 18, 2017, at the age of 54.

Peter was born to his parents, James and Anne Sullivan, on June 3, 1963 in North Hampton, MA. He grew up as the youngest of six children in a large Irish Catholic family and attended Marian Catholic High School in Framingham, MA. After high school, he served in the Navy Reserves and received his bachelors in business from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst. After graduating, Peter met his wife, Jacqueline Sullivan, at the Newton Marriott, MA, where she was finishing up her international management exchange program. In 1990, Peter married his Dutch sweetheart, Jacqueline Van der Valk, and in 1994 their daughter Caitlin was born while they were living in Germany. In 1995, work brought them to Texas where they lived in the Dallas Fort Worth area and Peter had the opportunity to travel to Asia and Europe for business. After moving to Minnetonka, MN in 2000, Peter began working for the Coca-Cola Company and ended his twelve year career with the company as a director in sales and marketing. His family decided to settle down and call Minnesota their home.

Peter was a driven professional with a love for the Boston Red Sox, DIY projects and cheering on his daughter in all of her endeavors including her alma mater: the Iowa Hawkeyes. When diagnosed with cancer in June 2014, he remained “Sully Strong” brave despite the rollercoaster ride of surgery, chemo, radiology and countless trips to the University of Minnesota hospitals during his recovery. Peter was able to fight and defeat his battle with cancer and was a three-year cancer survivor.

Peter is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Sullivan; his daughter, Caitlin Sullivan; his siblings, Jim Sullivan, Mark Sullivan, Maryanne Lally, and David Sullivan; and his fifteen nieces and nephews, He is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Anne Sullivan, his brother Tom Sullivan, his aunt Sister Elizabeth Garvey and by his father-in-law Jakob van der Valk.
A service for Peter will take place on Saturday, September 23rd, at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church. A closed casket visitation will be from 9-10 AM, followed by a memorial service at 10 AM.
The family is grateful for all the prayers and condolences. May his memories live on in all of our hearts, forever and always.
Love hopes all things, love believes all things, love bears all things, and love endures all things.
