Obituary for Douglas Grover
Doug Grover, age 76, of Downers Grove, IL, previously Mobile, AL passed away on July 10, 2017 in Wayzata, MN. A native of Pittsfield, ME, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Grover, and his father, Clarence (Casey) Grover. Doug is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beth Farnell Grover; daughter, Cheryl (Chris) Krampitz, grandchildren, Clarence and Dagny Krampitz; his mother, Edythe Grover; his brother, Ern (Anneke) Grover; and his uncle, Everett Forrester. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Patricia (the late Jim) Clark and Barbara (Herb) Milstead; brother-in-law, Doug (Jane) Farnell; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Doug grew up in York, ME, graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in Chemistry, and served in the United States Air Force. While working as a clinical chemist for the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, GA, he met and married Beth. He worked many years with the U.S. Veterans Hospital Systems in AZ, GA, TX, MS and AK. After retiring from the VA, he continued contract computer programming for various companies, including Blue Cross Blue Shield and Mayo Clinic Hospital of Minneapolis. Lewis (Jane) Glasser was one of Doug’s first friends when he moved to Atlanta 50 years ago. They kept in touch over the passing years; Doug and Beth treasured the many memories. He enjoyed visiting with his cousin, Randy, via telephone, during Randy’s rides home from work in Maine each afternoon. Doug treasured spending his time fishing and with his family – especially his grandchildren & their buddy Chester. Because of the many experiences and memories Doug and Ern shared growing up on the York River, a memorial service will be held there in celebration of Doug’s life – date to be determined.
