Obituary for Maribeth Oltmanns

Born in Guthrie, Oklahoma to James Thomas Crist and Minnie Francis Osborn, Maribeth grew up on a farm north of Crescent, Oklahoma. Karl and Maribeth met in high school and had their first date the night she was crowned homecoming queen. She attended Oklahoma A & M collage in Stillwater, Oklahoma and was an ALPHA DELTA PI Sorority Sister, majoring in Home Economics. During the war, she sold over $6,000 in war bonds and collected iron for the war effort. She was very active in 4-H and won 2 trips to Chicago with her sewing projects. She married the love of her life, Karl E. Oltmanns October 27, 1947. After running off to get married in Clayton, New Mexico, they made their home in Crescent, Oklahoma. Daughter, Beverly came along 3 years later and after moving a lot while Karl worked in the oil fields they made their home in Williston, North Dakota during the first oil boom. They were blessed with 2 boys Larry and Mike, born in Williston. After moving to Deephaven, Minnesota in Excelsior in 1965 she assisted Karl in running the many business he entered into and worked tirelessly to support her husband. She loved to sew, creating many of her own clothes and many dresses for Beverly. She enjoyed cooking also teaching her daughter to sew and cook and her 2 sons are good cooks as well. Her hobbies included crocheting and needle point art, and going to estate sales. She often went boating and fishing and eventually learned how to sail on Lake Minnetonka. She loved her home in Deephaven with all the trees. She entertained her family during holidays with home cooked meals and award winning receipts.
After a fall at home she moved in to a nursing home in 2013. They celebrated their 66th Anniversary together with a small glass of wine in the nursing home. Maribeth devoted her life to her husband and children. She passed away peacefully at the Franklin Rehab and Health Care Center, Franklin, MN on April 12, 2017 at the age of 92. She will be deeply missed.
Maribeth is survived by daughter Beverly (Mike) McCarvel, Brewster, MN., sons Larry, Breezy Point, MN & Mike, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida & several grandchildren and great grandchildren and 1 ½ great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Excelsior, MN Tuesday, April 18, 2017 with committal services at Fr. Snelling National Cemetery.
